carried in her light

[CONCEPT]
Carried in her Light is part of a larger series reflecting my personal journey through motherhood, a transformation that reshaped my identity, voice, and vision. This work focuses on the essence of resilience, vulnerability, and quiet strength that mothers embody. The concept is rooted in stripping away distractions so the subject’s presence and story take center stage.

[PROCESS]
The choice of black and white editing was deliberate, aligning with my intent to document motherhood in its raw and unfiltered form. Removing color allows emotion, texture, and body language to emerge without interference, emphasizing both the fragility and the strength in the subject’s expression. I worked with natural light to preserve intimacy and authenticity, allowing subtle shadows to carry symbolic weight. The editing process avoided heavy retouching to reinforce the theme of honesty and transformation.

[RESULT]
The final image captures a mother not only illuminated by light but also carrying it, representing both the weight and gift of her journey. By reducing the frame to its most essential elements, the portrait feels timeless and personal yet universal. It serves as a visual reflection of motherhood’s complexities: the rebirth of self, the strength found in vulnerability, and the legacy of light that mothers hold and pass forward.
